Question : I had a stroke last friday one of last test they did on my on monday was ultrasound of my heart through the esophagus. Before the test the doctor found that my exist IV's where leaking. And He tried 8 times to get another vein before he called nurse in she did first try. My question : one of the spots he tried is blue in a 2" circle near left wrist and feels stiff when I move my wrist.
When will you respond?
Brief Answer:
This results from leaked blood during the attempts!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking...
During the various attempts, blood leaked into the surrounding tissue.
As it is being absorbed by body cells, it goes through different color changes explaining this. The good news is that over several weeks it would be fully cleared by scavenger cells of the body.
The stiffness results from the inflammation that accompanied the multiple pricks. As it fades, this will resolve. In the interim, apply some ice-compression and exercise the wrist to avoid contractures.
I hope this helps.
I wish you well.
Feel free to follow up with me if need be.
Kind regards
