Question: I had an abortion after being raped seven years ago and never had a follow up check after the abortion due to the doctors personal beliefs getting in the way I did not feel comfortable in going back. Now seven years later I have severe stomach cramps and nausea could this be caused by this?

Brief Answer:
Very unlikely to be related to remote abortion

Detailed Answer:
Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using 'Ask a Doctor'. Any complications from the abortion you had, depending on how far along in the pregnancy you were, would be expected to happen within the first days to weeks after the abortion, and would typically cause symptoms such as vaginal bleeding and lower abdominal pain. At this point, it would be very unlikely to be related to the abortion, depending on how long you have had the stomach cramping and nausea, the most likely cause would be a gastroenteritis.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any other questions about that, and I would be glad to discuss it with you further.
