Question: I have a giant intermuscular (not intra) lipoma under the fascia of my left external oblique muscle. I don't remember the exact dimensions but it's something like 6"x5". I'm told that they have to remove it. That I have no choice. I left without scheduling a surgery because I am not sure they are telling me the truth. I can't feel anything. I am a bit chubby so you really can't see it. I do have numbness in that area and the occasional side-ache, along with some unexplained upset stomach moments. So, I'd like to know if I really do need a surgery for this and how long will that surgery take, along with the recuperation time. I didn't ask the surgeon these questions, I just left in shock. I really don't want to go back to him because he was very cold and scientific. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Lipoma should be operated.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I saw the picture. Please send the report of CT scan Abdomen.
If Lipoma is present,it has to be removed surgically. There is no Medical treatment.
In some parts of the body, Lipoma can turn into Malignancy. So,it is better to get it removed as soon as possible.
It doesn't produce any symptoms most of the time.In few ,it causes only pain.
Surgery may range from 1 hour to One and half hour.
Recovery may take 2 weeks after surgery.
Nothing to worry.
Please follow the advice of the doctor and proceed further.
Hope I answered your question. If you come back with Reports,I will clarify further.
Wish you good health

Thank-you very much for your quick response. I see, I didn't know that there is a risk of malignancy. No matter how small that risk, I understand now why he immediately suggested that it be removed. If this surgery truly only takes an hour or so, and if I can recuperate in 2 weeks (or a bit more) that alleviates my worries. I was concerned that it was much more complicated. I do feel better, thank-you! I will be getting the CT Scan in Wednesday with the report from the MD. I will send them to you as soon as I get home.

I saw the surgeon, going to do core biopsy next week and then go back to see him tens days after to schedule the surgery. The scanner report is in French, but it's saying that it's a sub-fascia formation measuring 126mmx50mmx200mm and consists of fat and doesn't contain tissue. I'm going to attach two frames of the scanner.

According to the website this discussion will close automatically in 2.5 days. Unfortunately, I will not have the results until October 9th. I'm sure you are right and it will be a simple, but quite large, Lipoma. I will try to contact you. In the meantime, thank you very much for your advice and your time!

Hello!

We were told on the phone today that the biopsy is negative and that the tumor is benign! So, although I don't have the actual test to show you, the answer is....it's not cancer. The only question I have now for the surgeon is that is it "intermuscular" or "intramusclular", is there a capsule or has it infiltrated my muscle? I think we'll only find that out when he does the surgery. But, so far it's good news!
