Question : I have a question about a potential genital wart. I had a bump show up on my outer vaginal lip 7 days ago. It is painful and showed up shortly after shaving and doing vigorous exercise in leggings. In the last couple of days the bump has seemed to decrease in swelling. I have removed a couple hairs from the bump so I believe that it is from shaving and sweating. In the picture you will see spots where hair has been removed

Brief Answer:
Seems like Ingrown hair

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have gone through your query and reviewed the image.

This seems like an ingrown hair that can happen after shaving when hairs regrow, rather than a genital wart.

I suggest you use a topical antibiotic e.g either Neosporin ointment or Mupirocin 2% ointment, twice daily for a few days.

Hope I have answered your query.

Hi, I felt like I should add that the bump is raised.

Additionally, could this be something else? Like herpes? Alongside this question I want to add that I did have unprotected sex 3 months ago. Like I said there is only one raised bump and the diameter is probably slightly less than a pencil eraser.

There is a lot of friction in the area it is on so I am trying to consider all possibilities.

You mentioned that it should clear up in a few days, but I have had it for 7 days. Admittedly, I have picked at it. Could this be part of the reason for the delay in healing?
When would you recommend I make an appointment with a doctor in person?

Brief Answer:
Ingrown hair

Detailed Answer:
Hi
It doesn't seem like herpes. To me it just seems like an ingrown hair. I suggest you to use a topical antibiotic ointment for a few days. Bumps due to ingrown hair may take a few days to resolve or till the trapped hair grows out of it. Manipulating it may cause it to get infected which may prolong the resolution time.
Take care
