Question : I have a really hard cough that is almost like vomiting. I've had it for a couple years, and it seems to be getting worse. I'm not sure if it's genetic or something I'm exposing myself to.

I can understand your concern.

Chronic cough with expectoration is commonly seen with bronchiectasis, bronchitis, tuberculosis, etc. I don't think it is genetic.

So better to consult pulmonologist in person and get done clinical examination of the respiratory system, chest x-ray and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).

The chest x-ray is needed for bronchiectasis and tuberculosis... PFT is a must for the diagnosis of bronchitis.

So better to consult pulmonologists and discuss all these.
