I Have A Small Marble Size Lump In My Gluteus

default
Posted on Tue, 9 Apr 2019
Question: I have a small marble size lump in my gluteus between the muscle and skin at the exact site where I received an intramuscular injection of betamethisone a little over a year ago during labor. It stays the same size and doesn't bother me unless I am poking and prodding at it a lot in which the skin gets slightly bruised above it if I mess with it too much. 2 doctors have told me it's nothing and likely tissue damage from the shot. Is this a likely explanation? Bumps scare me and it makes me have anxiety

Brief Answer:
Usually fat necrosis, a benign condition

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood the concerns.
Since the history indicates that the lump as you have explained developed after an injection of Betamethasone, it is most probably due to the fat necrosis that developed in the subcutaneous plane.
This is of not much of clinical significance unless causes any symptoms and particularly when one gets concerned as you are getting anxiety.
Hence I would advise you the following in such a situation:
First of all, get a high resolution ultrasonography done and FNAC if required/felt necessary.
This will confirm the diagnosis.
Secondly you can have a wait and watch policy and do nothing.
And the last alternative is to get this excised so that your anxiety, the lump which is not a normal part of body will be removed.

I hope, this answers your query and helps you in decision making.
Please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
