Question : I have a small pea size lump just below the middle finger joint on my palm. It is painful to bend middle and ring fingers. I have had it for a few months but now the pain is becoming too much and mobility is being affected. What could it be and what do I need to do? Is there a quick fix for 1 office visit?
Brief Answer:
Probably a ganglion cyst, follow the advice below.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Your symptoms seem to be related to a ganglion cyst.
The ganglion is a lump which develop along the tendons or joints.
I would recommend to do an x ray of the hand to confirm the diagnosis.
Meanwhile, I recommend to continue using anti inflammatory medication such as Naproxen 500 mg to reduce the pain.
You can take it three times a day.
I also recommend to use a brace or splint to temporarily immobilize the area.
If the pain continue you should consult a surgeon.
The treatment consists in aspiration of the cyst to drain the fluid.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
