I Have A Swollen Neck With A Type Of Lump.

Question: I have a swollen neck with a type of lump. It appeared about a week ago and at that time I thought it to be an ingrown hair or a pimple of some sort. I take Synthroid but have been out of my prescription for about 3 weeks now. It doesn't seem to be getting any better. There is some pain associated with it when moving my head up. I would like to include a picture of it but am not seeing a place to attach it.
Brief Answer:
Furuncle possibly, you can upload pics under the 'report section' of this web-page or mail them

Hi,
Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service,
I have gone through your query and it seems to be furuncle which is a bacterial infection of the hair follicle.
I would recommend you to upload the pictures of the affected areas under the report section of the site so that I can have a clearer picture of the condition and can guide you accordingly.

Brief Answer:
Furuncle, oral & topical antibiotic, anti inflammatory medicines
Detailed Answer:
I have reviewed the attached photographs.
It is looking like a furuncle which is a bacterial infection of the hair follicle.
I would recommend you to take a course of oral & topical antibiotics.
I would recommend you to take tablet cephalexin 500mg twice daily for 7 days and apply fusidic acid cream on the affected area twice daily for 8-10 days.
For pain take anti inflammatory medicine like tablet ibuprofen.
Antibiotics are prescription drugs and you need to see the doctor in person to get them
