Question : I have androgenic alopecia. I took finasteride 1mg for 1 year. In between I stopped for 3-4 months. Now again I started taking. I am not experiencing any side effects. However, I want to know is it safe to take or is there any better alternative.
Brief Answer:
No its not that safe
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Finasteride can be taken for short term. On long term it can cause problems with male hormone function and cause sexual problems.
Minoxidil applied topically, is considered safer.
Hair transplantation can be done in moderate to severe baldness.
Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
