Brief Answer:
Possibly you may need to increase xanax dosage.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to "Ask a doctor service" . I read your query and here is my advice.

You may need to continue using xanax. If you are taking 1mg of xanax daily and it is not making you to feel better you probably need to increase the dosage adding another 0.5 mg daily.
You can increase again dosage after 3 to 4 days.

If your doctor went out of town you may need to consult another psychiatrist because xanax is only provided by prescription.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
