Question : I have been diagnosed with adenocarcinoma after a needle biopsy. My report involves a left upper lung and lymph nodes. Adenocarcinoma within fibrotic syroma, consistent with lung primary
Gross description: specimen labeled left upper lung lobe mass received in formalin and consists of multiple XXXXXXX soft tissue cores ranging from 0.3 cm to 0.9 cm.
Comment; the tumor cells are strongly positive for CK7, TTF-1 and Napsin-A immunostains. They are negative for SATB2, Billin and CK20
Can you possibly tell me what stage this lung cancer is in or if it’s treatable with surgery, chemo, radiation, immunotherapy or anything else and can you tell me what you think the life expectancy is with or without treatment? I am 70 years old and have smoked for 50 years. Has the cancer mestasized? Thank you

                                    Brief Answer:
Pet CT scan required for further management
Detailed Answer:
Hi
You are having lung cancer adenocarcinoma type.
To find staging and whether the lung cancer has spread or metastasized to other parts of the body you should do a Pet CT scan first.
Life expectancy average with chemotherapy is 2 years.
Without chemotherapy, it is around 6 to 1 years.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

So with chemo only 2 years and without chemo 1-6 years? Is this because the chemo makes you so sick and no treatment you would die slower and maybe ha r more time? This cancer has not metastasized as seen in the PT scan. It is seen in lymph nodes but no major organs. Would I at my age be considered for immunology or trials?

Chances of cure with chemotherapy and radiation are higher
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Since lung cancer is only in lymph nodes and has not spread to distance organs it is in an early stage.
Chances of cure with chemotherapy and radiation are higher.
Yes, chemotherapy has many side effects which weaken the body but if lung cancer is detected in early stage then after treatment average survival time increase to 5 years.
