Question : I have been experiencing sensation in my tongue similar to a burnt feeling, yet I have not eaten anything hot. The sensation has been present for about 5 weeks. I recently took a prescription for mouth sores VALACYCLOVIR for 7 days and the sores have disappeared but the burning sensation is still present. I was tested for thrush with the mouth sores and it came back negative. My B12 was tested and results were normal. What could cause this burning sensation? Thanks.
Brief Answer:
It can be a sequel of cold sores.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
Cold sore and evolving aphthous ulcer are possibilities. You have completed valacyclovir for cold sores and the sores are disappeared, but the burning sensation might persist for few more days.
You can apply over the counter oral steroid creams like triamcinolone for symptomatic relief.
Include more fruits and vegetables to your diet. Multivitamin supplements can also be taken to prevent aphthous ulcers.
Hope I have answered your query.
