I Have Been Having Popping In My Sternum Area For

Question: I have been having popping in my sternum area for about 3-4 months now, I went to the doctor and she did an EKG on me and everything was normal with my heart, and she told me to basically just take Advil for a week, 2 times a day to see if that would help the inflammation. It has not really done anything and it still feels like it needs to pop and there feels like pressure on my chest, it is sometimes worse during the day then other times. What could this be?
Brief Answer:
Please give additional information
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood the concerns.
Please give additional information for me to assist you better:
Is there an actual pain or feeling pressure only?
What do you mean by saying needs to pop?
Any stress or/and anxiety?
Do the movements of the arms cause the discomfort or pain?
Any local tenderness?
Was X-ray chest done?
Any other details please.
Awaiting for detailed feedback/history as it helps in proper diagnosis.

Alittle pain but nothing to major, mostly pressure when hunched over.
When I got to stretch my chest it sometimes makes a popping noise, coming from the sternum.
Yes I have had some stress and anxiety
My arms don't cause any discomfort
Sometimes if you push on my chest area there is a little pain
No X Ray just EKG on heart
I also did some research and it sounds like it could be something called Costochondritis

As detailed below.

Exactly.
Thanks for your feedback.
All your symptoms look like to be due to costochondritis and stress /anxiety are one of the major causes.
Hence the management that I would suggest in an young male are as follows:
-Avoid the stress and /or anxiety at any cost. This is the basic treatment.
-Rest to the area by means of strapping with the Adhesive tapes during the deep Expiration phase. This will limit the movement, reduce the pain and give rest for healing to occur. To be done id medical management fails.
-Anti-inflammatory medicines in full dose as per the weight. Advil to be taken three times a day after food.
-Steroids if required for its strong anti-inflammatory role.
-Local rubrafacient liniments if the area is not covered by strapping.
-Confirmation of the diagnosis by local Doctor on palpation and clinical evaluation and to get prescription based medicines after discussing the above points.
This sort of a treatment helps all my patients. and should help you too.

What is the cause of costchondritis and could this also cause back/neck/shoulder pain or discomfort. Lastly is this normal for it to last for months like it has
Brief Answer:
Fibromyalgia, stress, anxiety
Detailed Answer:
There is no specific cause that can be attributed to costochondritis.
The causes of costochondritis can also cause back/neck/shoulder pain.
This can be caused and called as fibromyalgia, again the stress and anxiety are the commonest cause.
Surely one needs to rule out local causes such as cervical spondilitis and so on by a clinical evaluation and necessary investigations if needed.
These can last for a longer duration of time depending upon the causative factors being not abolished.
I hope this answer further helps you.
