Question : I have been having problems with my wrist and I am not sure if I need to see a doctor. It seems to be joint pain when I am doing work. Doesn’t seem to hurt just laying here. I am a server, and carrying trays now seems to be almost impossible. Lifting things in certain ways as well. Also hurts when my thumb moves too.

Brief Answer:
Follow up with a bit more information as there can be several causes

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your query and here is my advice.

As per your history, for that there can be several causes. kindly follow up with a bit more information.

Please let me know do you have history of injury or trauma to hand, swelling or sprain?

For pain you can take tablet motrin (Ibuprofen) 400 mg every 8 hourly. Apply diclofenac gel locally. Heating pads will also help. Restrict your hand movements.

In case of swelling or trauma, you may require X Ray hand including wrist joint after detailed medical examination and orthopedician consultation to rule out possibility of fracture.

Hope I have answered your query and let me know if I can assist you further.... Thank you.

Regards,
Dr Shyam Kale

I have no history of injury or trauma to this wrist that I can think of. I have let it go for weeks because i am able to do most tasks without any pain at all, but if I turn or use it the wrong way, it is almost unbearable pain. It just seems odd.

I just do not want to look like an idiot and go to a doctor or orthopedic doctor and get an X-ray for them to say nothing is wrong.

Brief Answer:
then it may be muscle strain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

As per your history, then it may be due to muscle strain or pulled muscle.

For that continue with tab. motrin, diclofenac gel and heating pads as suggested earlier. Restrict your hand movements.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Shyam Kale.
