I Have Been Having Severe Insomnia For About Two Weeks
Question: I have been having severe insomnia for about two weeks. Normally I am a really good sleeper and I am very healthy. It’s taking me forever to fall asleep and I am only averaging about 4-5 hours a night. Sometimes 3 despite trying all the natural things. The one noticeable thing that has happened since this started is that when I lay down I can feel my heart beating in my chest but my heart rate is normal. It’s not beating fast, it’s not fluttering but I can feel it every night without trying. I went to urgent care and had an EKG done and it was normal but I suspect it’s contributing to my insomnia as I have never been this aware of it before. I have a doctor appointment in over a week but I am really sleep deprived at this point and wondering if anyone can give me some insight as to what I am experiencing before hand?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Your symptoms could be related to anxiety or primary insomnia.
Nevertheless I recommend checking vitamin D plasma levels and thyroid hormone levels for possible thyroid gland dysfunction.
If this test results normal, I recommend consulting with a neurologist .
In the meantime I recommend taking a herbal supplement containing valeriana before sleep coupled with 5 mg melatonin.
Hope you will find this information helpful!
