I Have Been Prescribed Cipro For An Urinary Infection And
Question: I have been prescribed Cipro for an urinary infection and suffer from rheumatoid arthritis. Since Cipro can damage tendons and such, should I take another drug?
Brief Answer:
Better to avoid it
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
Taking count that you are suffering from rheumatoid arthritis it would be preferable not to use ciprofloxacine.
It rarely may cause inflammation of tendons and swelling in joints .
It would be better if you do an uroculture to check the type of antibiotic which works best on this UTI.
If you can't do an uroculture I think you can use trimethoprim/sulphomethoxazol (if you are not taking methotrexate).
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
