Question: I have chest pain, feels like a cramp/constriction every few minutes, its a sharp pain located in the middle of my chest. Base of my throat is a little tender after every occurrence, No burning sensations. It began last night and only time it hasn't bothered me was when I was asleep (started up again when i woke up). I work in an office with no strenuous activities.
Every 5-10 minutes it flares up like a painful cramp right in the middle of my chest that lasts for no more than 5 seconds each time.

It could be acute gastritis.Acute gastritis is a sudden inflammation or swelling in the lining of the stomach.This inflammation causes pain in retrosternal and epigastric area as in your case.
Suggestions,
Start taking over the counter antacid medication like Omeprazole 40 mg twice daily for 5 days.
Along with take Tums twice daily.

Avoid spices.
Eat home cooked bland food for few days.Its light and easily digestible.
