I Have Chronic Hives . I Got A Severe Allergic

Question: I have chronic hives. I got a severe allergic reaction with hives all over my body. The doctor prescribed me a prednisone 1st day at 60 mg , 2nd day 55, 3rd day 50 and going down to 0. I am on my 3rd day . from the first day the dosage unfortunately was not enough and after 18 hours the hives started coming g back. I took claritin to ease the symptoms. on my second day the hives came back completely all over my body on the 20 th hour . I would like to know how much to increase the dosage until i meet my doctor on Tuesday

Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I have gone through your query and noted your concern.

You may take loratadine ( claritin ) twice a day. In addition you may add cetirizine 10mg tablet once a day in evening. Besides you can take the same 50mg dose of prednisone daily for a week and taper it thereafter after discussing with your doctor.
