Question : I have dull pain in my upper right abdomen. I don’t have any other symptoms of things like kidney stones, gallstones, or liver disease. What else could it be? When to see a doctor?

I can understand your concern. Pain in the upper right abdomen can be hard to differentiate based on just the symptom. However a dull pain in this area is more likely to originate from the liver.

Liver pain is usually dull and vague and felt under the right ribs and can often be confused with general abdominal pain, kidney pain or back pain.

Liver pain can have different causes so it is important to see a doctor as soon as possible in order to do blood tests and an ultrasound as a first diagnostic step.
