Question : I have flank pain but only when I move. It doesn’t hurt if I just don’t move... but when I roll over it feels like a sharp pain in my side... right side... right where the kidney is located... I had a urinalysis and they said no sign of infection. Any suggestions?

Brief Answer:
May be muscle sprain. Require further evaluation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your query and here is my advice.

As per your history, I think it may be due muscle strain.

For that you can take tablet Ibuprofen (motrin) 400 mg every 8 hourly. Apply diclofenac gel locally. Heating pads will also help. Still kindly follow up with a bit more information to rule out other possibilities.

Please let me know do you have fever, burning while urination, shivering, blood in urine, history of injury or trauma to back?

In that case you may require ultrasound abdomen and pelvis, complete hemogram, urine culture sensitivity after detailed medical examination and Urologist opinion. Restrict your movements.

Hope I have answered your query and let me know if I can assist you further.... Thank you.

Regards,
Dr Shyam Kale
