Question: I have had abdominal pain for the last week, left lower quadrant. I also have had 3 abdominal operations, including colon resection. Could it be from adhesions or diverticulitis? Would blood work indicate if there is an infection? What is the best way to find out? I have had this pain a couple of years ago, had a colonoscopy, but nothing was found. Adhesions were suspected. The pain eventually disappeared.

Brief Answer:
seems intestine colic from various reasons as infection, adhesion or else.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
* As per my clinical experience, the abdomen pain without other associated symptoms
will indicate intestine colic from various reasons as intestine infection, adhesion or
else.

Kindly find following details for your doubts.

1. Adhesion give persistent periodic pain, rather than sporadic pain occasionally and
more likely to be progressive with time.
Diverticulitis is usually presenting severe spasms, associated irritative features as
diarrhea, fever or other systemic presentation.

2. Blood work may indicate high white blood cell counts if there is infection with or
without alteration in polymorph cytology.

3. Best way to find out is primarily ultrasound examination with or without secondary
requirement of CT scan abdomen pelvis with or without diagnostic endoscopy as per
the clinical evaluation.

* My current recommendations

- Drink more liquids.
- Strict dietary measures to follow by avoiding high dairy fat, non veg, oily, spicy.
- Maintain smooth bowel movements regularly.
- Deep breathing exercises, walking in fresh air, YOGA help great.
- Add anti spasmodic tablet with antacid via prescription with your doc.

* Follow up after 2 days or early as per the requirement.

Wish you fine recovery.
Take care.
