Question : I have had a "lump in the throat sensation" for about a week now. It feels a little bit like a pill that hasn't properly gone down. It started on the 21st of this month, out of the blue in the evening. No other notable symptoms. randomly (once or twice a day) I feel like I have to swallow food twice for it to go down, but this might be psychosomatic. No real problems swallowing. No physical lump I can feel. No real chest pain but a sometimes feels a little bit "achy" in the upper chest. Find myself burping more as if I need to clear gas.
Brief Answer:
It can be psychological or due to acid reflux.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
The symptom complex you have described is known as “Globus sensation”.
Most probably it is due to acid reflux or anxiety. The true lump is very unlikely because in case of true lump you feel more symptomatic while swallowing due to mechanical obstruction, here the reverse is seen ie. You feel better while swallowing.
As of now avoid spicy foods and you can take antacids. Avoid unwanted stress and anxiety.
If symptoms persist, you can consult an ENT specialist and get a (visual examination of your throat) just for reassurance.
Wishing you good health.
Thanks
