Question : I have had a tarry stool for three days with abdominal bloating and diarrhea which started out as clear liquid stools and now tarry stools. I have been prescribed Xarelto 10 mg daily for deep vien thrombosis. Should I stop taking Xarelto? Could I have internal bleeding going on?

I've read your details,

Xarelto is a blood thinner and bleeding is one of the most important complications.

As your stools are tarry in color you should go for the following tests without any further delay:

-Stool for occult blood.
-PT and INR
-Bleeding time and clotting time and Complete blood count.

Don't stop taking Xarelto on your own and do also inform you're the treating physician about it. Meanwhile, go to the nearest lab and get these tests done. You would get results in 12 hours. After that only we could comment on stopping or altering the doses of the anticoagulant.
