Question : I have had diarreha for 5 days. only little bits at a time and oily but urgent. Only starts in the morning hours and is chronic. my upper stomach hurts and seems to be bloated but lower stomach and abdomen seems fine. I am really tired, but not sleepy my eyelids are heavy and I have no energy and get the sweats 2 or 3 times a day. I have been taking pepto and Imodium. Wondering about e coli?

                                    Brief Answer:
ORS is the mainstay of treatment

Diarrhea could be due to contaminated hands or could be due to some gastrointestinal infections. These infections are self correcting and unless there is bloody stool associated, treatment with antibiotics is not required. E coli is a part of our normal urinary flora and it's mere presence does not mean it is concerning. Irrespective of treatment it takes 3-7 days for relief. ORS (oral rehydration solution) is the mainstay of treament. The fact that you have no energy indicatesfluid and electrolyte imbalance and ORS would help. You can take pepto and imodium if you feel needed.
