Question: I have had very bad alopecia for a few months now.
Dermatologist said lost 25% of my hair. Luckily it is covered by my main head of hair.
I have been under a lot of stress for a long time now.
My dermatologist gave me clobetasol propionate.05%
It didn't work.
He sent me to another dermatologist who gave me 10 shots of steroids in my head
I also have on top of my head
What to do?

I have very bad alopecia. My doctor gave me a steroid ointment which didn't work and then I went to another dermatologist who put 10 shots of steroids in my head
25% of my hair is gone. Lucky part is that it shows up under my main head of hair.
I have been under extreme stress for past few months.
I never saw it falling out in my shower, bed, brushes, combs.
Do you have any other ideas for me?
Thank you

Brief Answer:
Alopecia areata, oral mini-pulse of steroid and Azathioprine
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service...
I have gone through your query and reviewed the attached photograph.
It seems to be alopecia areata which is a chronic autoimmune inflammatory disease of the hair follicles.
I would recommend you to go for the oral mini-pulse of steroids along with the course of Azathioprine.
These are prescription drugs and should be taken under the supervision of the doctor.
They need to be continued for a few months to cause hair regrowth.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Asmeet
