Hello and welcome to "Ask A Doctor"
I have gone through your query,
The symptoms you are presently experiencing seems to be a very common side effect of Macrobid. Macrobid causes upset stomach and bloating in many individuals.
I would suggest you to do the following:
- Take a capsule containing pantoprazole and domperidone combination; daily twice, half hour before the main meals.
- Have timely small meals.
- Drink plenty of warm water.
- Avoid tea or coffee or any soft drinks.
I hope this helps,
Please feel free to discuss further,
Regards

My symptoms preceded the anitbiotic treatment. I presented with those symptoms and the doctor gave me the macrobid. Symptoms continue. Every time i eat any solid food, i get the abdominal discomfort. I do not have any diahrea or blood in my stools. The stool is formed but very soft. I just worry since i have a history of abdominal cancer, that i am dealing with somethign serious.

Hello again,
Thanks for writing back,
Sorry for the inadvertent delay in writing back,
Abdominal discomfort after the intake of solids, could be due to a development of a peptic ulcer which usually presents with the similar symptoms. Exact diagnosis couldbe made only after proper examination along with some investigations like Endoscopy, Xray or some preliminary blood tests.
It is quite difficult for me to comment upon the possibility of relation to abdominal cancer as I am not aware of the details of treatment and the stages and extent of the cancer.
Meanwhile, I would suggest you to do the following:
- Take timely small meals.
- Avoid the intake of any pain pills at all.
- It would be wise to consult with your doctor for further investigations.4
I hope this helps,
Please feel free to discuss further,
Wishing you the best,
Regards
