Question : Hii,I am 21 years old and i have pinworms coming in my stool from 4 days.I am feeling itchy in the anal area. i took the albendazole 400mg medicine last night(just one tablet) and the itching is gone and didnt feel any uncomfortable feeling. But now also i can see pinworms in my stool and feeling itchiness near my anal area.so do i have to continue taking medicine. I didnt consult any doctor ,i just took the medicine from the medical shop

yesterday i took the Albedazole 400 mg medicine .so after 2 weeks i have to take the same medicine?.what i have to do to prevent the itching near anal area.because its too irritaing at the night time.

Hi,
If you are very sure you saw the worms today also, then you can do the following -

1. Take one more dose of Albendazole 400 mg today
2. Let all family members/those who stay with you take a dose of Albendazole today
3. Repeat the dose after 2 weeks
4. Take T,Cetrizine at night which will relieve the itching sensation.
5. Avoid rubbing or scratching the anal area

sir ,can i take T,cetrizine at night whenever i feel itching or is there any certain time limits to be followed ? like albendazole 400mg.and if i see the worms the next day after taking second time albendazole 400 mg tablet can i take another dosage of that medicine the following day also that is the third day?

Hi,
Pinworms cause intense anal itching at night.
Cetrizine is meant to relieve the symptom of itching. (It relieves itching of any cause). So take it at night to prevent itching at night so that you can have a good sleep.

Only two doses of albendazole are enough ( 2-3 weeks apart).
I told about the additional dose since you saw the worms today also ( You can take this additional dose only if you see actively moving worms and not dead worms). No need for one more dose the next day.
