I Have Pink Tinged Sputum After Coughing Hard From Smoking

Question: I have pink tinged sputum after coughing hard from smoking marijuana. I have not seen a doctor, and I have no other irregular symptoms. I am 31 years old and typically do not get sick, any ideas?
Brief Answer:
You should see doctor if symptoms recurs...
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Usually a pink tinged sputum is due to blood mixed sputum. It can arise due to congested lung and friable tissue. But in your case probably cough hard may have caused mechanical as well as barotrauma leading to blood mixed sputum.
It's difficult to predict which of those two are the cause though the later looks more likely. I would recommend watching over from more symptoms including persistent cough and more pink tinged sputum. If any of these or other unusual symptoms occur, you should see a doctor immediately.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications.
Regards

Hello,
Sorry the link you sent for a follow up question wouldn't load. I went to a minute clinic last night because I woke up yesterday morning hocking up more bloody phlegm. The nurse practitioner is currently treating me for pneumonia with azithromycin, I just wanted to ask if this seems like a correct diagnosis?

Brief Answer:
Diagnosis is based on clinical examination and tests...
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
As I mentioned earlier, congested lung (pneumonia) is one of the differential diagnosis for blood stained cough sputum. There are few other conditions that cause blood stained sputum. It's difficult to arrive at conclusive diagnosis based on symptoms alone. Physical examination and radiological tests are necessary.
Did the NP order chest x-ray and blood tests? If yes, I would like to review the reports?
If the tests were not done, I would suggest getting it done by your local health care provider / GP.
Hope this answered your question. Let me know if you need clarifications.
