Question : I have recently gotten an MRI on my lower right side of back because I have spondylolisthesis and scoliosis and the pain has gotten worse. But in that MRI they saw into my stomach and saw some extra tissue in my spleen. And just now I got the sharpest pain in my left lower ribcage area and I know that%E2%80%99s where the spleen is. Any idea whats going on?

                                    Brief Answer:
Different reasons can mean excess tissue on spleen.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
The extra tissue of the spleen may mean that enlarged spleen and the cause of it can be infection viral like mononucleosis, bacterial or parasitic infection.
Also other blood diseases such leukemia or neoplasms.
Also another option to explain the extra tissue on spleen can be tumor of spleen itself.
So further evaluation is needed to explain what this can be. Do a total blood count with formula first and then an abdominal ultrasound.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

So the pain could be due to any of those things? The pain was so bad i could barely breathe. anyways, this is definitely something to get looked at?

                                    Brief Answer:
Get further evaluated.
Detailed Answer:
The main cause of pain is spondylolisthesis and scoliosis of the spine but also the spleen issues should be evaluated and of course it is something to get looked at.
So you should get evaluated for this spleen extra tissue.

okay. thank you. the pain in my ribcage is new and the only pain ive had is on the lower right side of my back. except for the pain that happened right in my spleen area i believe. also, i have this odd indent on the lower right side of my back that looks like a really deep dimple, but ive never had back dimples, it showed up out of nowhere. i was told it could be muscle astrophy from the cortisone shot i got but i went back to the doctors for my back pain and asked about this deep indent. they said they didnt think the cortisone shot caused it so i was wondering if you knew what could?

also, i had mono around a year ago, if that means anything. i havent had any of the other symptoms though

                                    Brief Answer:
The dimples or indent is not much related to cortisone usage.
Detailed Answer:
I see the photo you attached and the muscles of your back doesn't seem much atrofic.
I don't think the back dimples can be related to the muscle atrophy. They can be more evident if you have lost weight recently.
I think the indent may be related to the back position you are keeping because of spinal issues .
About the extra tissue on spleen it can be related to mono. You should also be kept under control about mono doing frequent blood tests and abdominal ultrasound.
