Question: I have strep in knee, am taking Cephalexin for it but recently the DR started me on an IV, Rocephin, 1 gm every day. Since that protocol I have experienced severe itching all over my body and topical cream/gels do not help. What cause this? It seems to be ischemic. Meds like Zyrtec do not help. What can I do for relief? I am to see a dermatologist in two weeks. Do I have Eczema? I saw a note that kidney disease could cause itching. My GFR is 24 but steady.

Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Do you have any skin rash? If yes, I request you to kindly upload a few images in "Reports Section". A drug reaction usually causes a visible skin rash.

Hope to assist you further. Take care.
