I Have Sudden Onset (within About 6 Hours) Of Mildly

default
Posted on Thu, 11 Oct 2018
Question: I have sudden onset (within about 6 hours) of mildly sore throat with marked loss of voice, loss of balance (mostly OK while sitting, but a tilt to the left when trying to walk). No fever earlier, now low-grade (99.7). I'm thinking viral infection with labyrinthitis. Is anything like this going around?

Brief Answer:
you're probably right

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

welcome to 'Ask a Doctor' service. I've gone through your query and I want to share some thoughts about it with you.

I can't tell whether such a viral infection is going around your area obviously but I can definitely say that you're probably right! The symptoms do suggest an infectious labyrinthitis (sore throat and ear symptoms). I've seen such cases recently where I live and work and they do occur from time to time everywhere.

An ENT specialist should be able to diagnose this disorder and provide appropriate treatment. Antiemetics, hydration and perhaps corticosteroids can be employed to treat it.

I hope I've answered your question. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Kind Regards!
