Question : I have very irregular light period that smell fishy. I’m 99% sure it’s VB and I would like to know what over the counter medication I could get that would actually work.

A fishy smelling period can be due to bacterial vaginosis. Metronidazole or same categorical drug (like Tinidazole/ secnidazole) is the treatment of choice to cure BV. It can be taken as 2 gm single dose.

Local application of 2% clindamycin gel is also helpful. In case these do not help then do consult your gynecologist for proper examination and prescriptions.

You may require a prescription for Metronidazole. However, Clindamycin vaginal gel is generally available over the counter.
