I Hit My Head, And Bent My Neck Pretty Severely

Question: I hit my head, and bent my neck pretty severely in a snowboarding accident 5 days ago. After that, when I would try and sit up my vision would spin so much I could not stay upright. After the first 2 days I felt better, but my head still feels extremely full, like a heavy feeling, and if I move my neck fast or put it in a weird position the dizziness/vertigo comes back. It’s way worse at night when I’m trying to sleep. Over all I feel fine, my neck isn’t that sore, I just feel light headed overall. It’s the dizziness and room spinning when I move that’s worrying me. I can’t really afford to go in and get checked out, I don’t have insurance so I’m wondering if I can just wait this out.

Brief Answer:
It may need weeks to get better.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

I am sorry to hear this from you.
It is a good sign that you didn't vomit or loose concience.
I suppose that the severe head injury or blowing head may have caused the calcium particles in your inner ear to move in the wrong direction which may be causing the spinning and dizziness to you.
The problem can be related to positional vertigo since it is more obvious when you change position sitting up or laying in bed.
This doesn't need immediate treatment .
You can wait for some days to see if it gets better.
Usually it may get better in some weeks.
If it doesn't get better you may need to go to doctors office and he will apply Epley manoeuver,a maneouver of moving head in order to help the calcium particles get in place. An ENT doctor is needed to do this.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
