I Just Had Blood Work And My WBC Is 10.9,

Question: I just had blood work and my WBC is 10.9, hemoglobin was 18.0 and monocytes 981, RBC iron 33.5
All else pretty normal, for example Platelets 299 and RBC 5.38, hematocrit 50.9.

I'm on my 3rd day of Fluconazole for very inflamed and painful gums, which are getting better.
Also, 2 weeks ago was on 5 days of prednisone for a bad cold.

I am interested in an oncologists review whether this could signal leukemia.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query. High hemoglobin and borderline elevated leucocyte count is possible in body infection but I see it differently. There may be a blood disorder called poly cythemia for which you need further work up done. Need full RBC count and peripheral smear examination of blood. Even a CT scan of chest is recommended to rule out any disorder of chest which gives rise to hypoxaemia which raises hemoglobin, Which is likely to cause neurological problems and many other problems.
