Question : I just received my LabCorp results with three "abnormalities" which were 1. MCV 98 which was designated high 2. Monocytes (Absolute) 1.0 which was designated high and WBC Esterase 1 plus designated abnormal. At the time of the blood draw, I had two wounds which were infected and being treated by a wound doctor (now healed). I am scheduled for surgery on May 11th and am wondering if this will affect their denying my surgery (herminated disc) I have been in varying degrees of pain since November (tried 3 epidural steroid shots, physical therapy, and a chiropractor before opting for surgery! Now I am concerned that the test results will affect my having surgery. What is your opinion?

Hi there
Thanks for the query
I have Read and understood your problem. The readiness for surgery in terms of infection markers would depend on
If you have a temperature
Your total WBC count
Your CRP level
Do let me know of they are raised. If yes, there a chance they'd want this to settle before surgery. Monocytes are not a problem, although Leucocyte esterase is slightly high suggesting infection. The main determinants are WBC count and CRP.
