Brief Answer:
Blood in the urine should be evaluated

Detailed Answer:
Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using 'Ask a Doctor'. Anytime blood is seen in the urine, especially in patients over the age of 35, an evaluation should be done to confirm where the bleeding is coming from (whether from the kidneys, or somewhere else in the urinary tract). It may be something benign such as a kidney stone or urinary tract infection, but the diagnosis we want to make sure it is not is bladder cancer. Even with being on a blood thinner, blood in the urine would not be considered normal and should be evaluated.

So I would recommend you see your doctor to have your urine checked. This can help determine the next steps to take, which may include further imaging (such as a CT scan), or seeing a urologist so they can look at the bladder with a scope to look for the cause of the bleeding.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any other questions about that, and I would be glad to discuss it with you further.
