I am consulting a neurologist for my RLS and she prescribed me Vitamin D capsules. However, there was no discussion about my thyroid levels as they were in the normal range. I hadn't paid much attention to it back then but since I'm having trouble losing weight, I took a closer look to realise that my free and total T4 levels are borderline low. How would you interpret my results?

Hi...
Welcome to "Ask a Doctor"service.
I am Dr Ajeet XXXXXXX
I have gone through your query and here is my opinion.
Any changes in T3 and T4 thyroid hormones are always proceeded by changes in TSH levels.
Your TSH is normal and your thyroid seem to be functioning normally.
Repeat thyroid profile check after a gap of 2 months.
Go for TSH,Free T3 and Free T4 levels.
Actually, thyroid hormone is in two states-Free and bound (to plasma proteins).
Only free form is clinically active and significant so it is a better indicator.
An underactive thyroid (which you are suspecting) is usually associated with weight gain and an overactive thyroid is usually associated with weight loss.
For weight loss, have rich fibre diet including plentiful of vegetables and fruits and be physically active.
Take green Yes,black coffee and Apple cider vinegar to boost your metabolism.
Avoid fatty and greasy meals.
Avoid alcohol, junk food, bakery and carbonated drinks.
If the unintentional weight gain continues, please see your clinician for further evaluation and to rule out any other pathology.
Hope that I have answered your query.
If you have any doubts, please let me know.
Stay healthy and stay blessed.
Regards.
