Question : I suspect I have a hiatal hernia. I have had GERD for a long time but recently I suffer a lot of mid abdominal pain and back pain along with extreme reflux. I will soon have an endoscopy. Recently I was in a high impact car accident and afterwards had a big bruise on my mid abdomen. Is there any way to know if the terrible collision (car was totalled) caused the hiatal hernia?

I read your query and here is my advice.

I believe that a car accident can cause hiatal hernia but taking count that you have been suffering GERD for long you may have had it before then accident.
It is not important to know if it is caused by accident or not.
The most important thing to know is if you have hiatal hernia or not.
Taking antacids is necessary .
Surgery may be considered if you don't see any improvement.
