I Think I Have Gout . My Big Toe Started

Question: I think I have Gout. My big toe started hurting the other day and about two days later, I can hardly walk. My boss looked at my foot and it looks normal but its been getting more and more painful in the last two days. A bit of swelling, redness and major pain. I have iced it down and elevated every night and it seems to help but as the day goes on, it starts to return painfully. Every thing I have read says Gout so I cant think anything different since I did not stub my toe or injure my foot in any way. It just started out of nowhere.

Brief Answer:
There can be several causes, require further evaluation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your query and here is my advice.

As per your history, there can be several causes for that.

For further assessment, I would suggest you to consult with orthopedician for detailed clinical examination. He may procure X Ray and relevant blood tests complete hemogram, uric acid, CRP as per evaluation to rule out any strain/stress fracture or arthritis or gout.

Mean while, for pain you can take tablet motrin 400 mg three times a day or sos. Apply diclofenac gel or ointment locally. Continue heating pads. Use properly well fitted shoes. Avoid strenuous activity.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further...
