I Took Misoprostol To End A Pregnancy And I Have
Question: I took Misoprostol to end a pregnancy and I have no changed my mind. I didn't have any bleeding, just mild cramping. What damage can that do to a fetus?
Brief Answer:
MTP
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query,
If you have not taken mifepristone and only misoprostol, then if the pregnancy is viable and there is no bleeding per vaginum as yet and you have changed your mind of continuing the pregnancy then pregnancy can be continued safely without any defects in foetus. However a weekly follow up scan would be required to check for viability and growth of foetus.

I have read that Misoprostol can cause birth defects? Is that possible? I did not take mifepristone, only Misoprostol.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
There have been cases reported, yes, for specific malformations like mobius sequence, hydrocephalus, transverse segmentation associated with club footsyndactyly or encephalocele , but the outcome ratio were not significant.
I attach a link for such an article for your purview:- https://www.ejog.org/article/S0301-2115(16)31020-X/pdf
however , there are check points during pregnancy through scans at 13 weeks and 18 th week to rule out anomalies if any , and if so then there is always an option of terminating pregnancy then.
