Question : I used a chainsaw requiring a squeezing action of the hand. The next day my hand was swollen and had some mild pain in the palm and thumb area. I get full movement of my hand but after two weeks I still have some swelling and occasional pain in that area. I am wearing a wrist and hand brace which seems to help. What else should I do?

                                    Brief Answer:
Tendinitis of the wrist possible.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
The pain in the wrist and thumb, swelling and redness may signify tendinitis. The tendons around the wrist joint are injured and inflammed because of the overload, increased activity you did.
It may need weeks to get better.
You may need to use antinflamatory drugs such advil or acetaminophen for pain and swelling.
Also using an elastic band can be helpful to reduce swelling. Don't use it too much, especially don't do certain movements which cause pain and put it at rest.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
