Question: I was diagnosed with a UTI on October 16, 2019. I started to feel better- no more pain, but the urgency was still present. My Dr. switched me from Bactrim to Cipro on 10/22. After several days, urgency still present so I went back to the doctor. That culture showed no infection, but the presence of red blood cells was still there. I was switched to Ceftin. I had some pain in my back but because the culture showed no infection, fever or chills, a kidney infection was ruled out. My Dr. ordered me an ultrasound, which I am having on 11/8. The urgency is still there. I feel like I have to urinate all of the time. Dr said maybe there was some inflammation and to wait it out. After 3 weeks of this I am exhausted. Is this normal? I can't find any other reason for this sudden urgency other than infection. I've made an appointment with a urologist but I can't get in until 11/26. I just want this to stop.

I have frequency urination. I do NOT have pain, I do NOT have issues sleeping, my urine flow is normal to moderate. I am NOT diabetic

Brief Answer:
Yes, it can happen due to inflammation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the follow-up.

One can have urgency due to inflammation of bladder mucosa that persists even after the infection is controlled to some extent by taking antibiotics.

This inflamed bladder mucosa causes mild involuntary contractions of the bladder leading to urgency

Thanks and Regards.
