default
Posted on Sun, 5 Apr 2020
Question: I was diagnosed with epididymitis. My right testicle was very swollen. In my ER visit, they dir an ultrasound and diagnosed. They gave me a shot in the arm of an antibiotic, and then prescribed me an antibiotic to take for 10 days after. It seems after almost 48 hours the right testicle has grown in size? Is this normal? When should i expect the swelling to subside?

Brief Answer:
It might take 1 to 3 days of antibiotics

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query.

The swelling due to epididymitis will start to subside 1 to 3 days after starting Antibiotics. Rarely it might take 4 days, but if the swelling is increasing along with pain even after 4 days of treatment you may have to re-visit your treating doctor. It can be considered that the present antibiotics are not working or there might be extension of the infection to the testis (Orchitis).

Please approach your doctor if you observe the below signs after 4 day
1. Increasing swelling
2. more tender
3.Redness
4. Swelling in the left testicle
5. Start to having fever

Please revert back with an update on the present condition. I will guide you on how to proceed further. Till then do continue the antibiotics advised by your doctor.
