Question : I was diagnosed with pneumonia yesterday. I had a chest X-ray and there is a dense area of pneumonia is in my right upper lobe. I had a high fever, and significant pain when breathing deep on my right side, aches and headache, but absolutely no cough. I have been in a z-pack and augmentin 875 now for over 24 hours. The pain has gotten somewhat better and the fever is not as high. I just wonder why there is no cough. Can this happen?

It is possible that you have atypical pneumonia. Pneumonia can be classified in different ways, one classification is atypical and typical.

There are certain bacteria that are the most common reason for pneumonia, when they cause this condition, the type of pneumonia is called typical pneumonia.

Atypical pneumonia refers to pneumonia that is caused by bacteria or viruses that do not are the most common causes/reasons for pneumonia and the symptoms tend to differ slightly from the normal symptoms.

Azithromycin (z pak) is one of the meds used to treat atypical pneumonia.
