Question : I have been battling lower back issues for a while. On Wednesday during physical therapy I was doing some body squats and my lower left back began to spasm bad. It gradually got worst throughout the day to the point I ended up in the er. Er diagnosed me with sciatica and gave me some muscle relaxers and steroids. I already had scheduled a mri for my low back the next day Because I was in PT for a while but things weren’t getting better. Mri came back degenerative discs are l4/l5 and l5/s1. When coming home from the er Wednesday after getting out of the car my right leg was pretty numb and actually gave out on me getting out of the car. That hasn’t happened since then. My right leg is still pretty numb however. I can’t really curl my foot backwards, I can flex toes and spread apart somewhat. Difficult to rotate in a circle. This goes up into my outside calf and minimally outside thigh. It’s pretty consistent and doesn’t let up. I’m supposed to be seeing a spine specialist next week but wondering if inthe meantime this is normal. No major pain on right side just numb leg. Minor to medium pain left side lower back close to where the spasm occurred. Sometimes radiates to the butt

                                    Brief Answer:
It can be herniated disc.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
I think the symptoms of pain , numbness and difficulty on curling it backwards can be related to herniated disc.
Degenerative disc can cause herniated disc which cause compression to the spinal nerves which are causing the numbness.
You need to take antiinflammatory drugs such ibuprofen or naproxen, muscle relaxers and corticosteroid injections also.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
