Question : I was dx’d with Shingles on Tuesday 4/16. Nerve pain started 4/11; rash was present in my left arm Tuesday. I was prescribed 1g Valtrex 3x day. I am also taking 1.5 g L Lysine 3x/day. I understand rash will be 7-10 days and nerve pain will be at least 2 weeks.
My lymph in my neck on left side is visibly swollen and I keep having shooting nerve pain in my ear. I’m primarily concerned with the ear pain. Is anything more I can do or should I be seen by a doctor for this in particular. I do not see rash around my ears and I don’t have loss of hearing. Wanting to make sure this is within normal and my hearing isn’t at risk. 43 year old female.

                                    Brief Answer:
Ear pain seems to be unrelated to shingles
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to ask a doctor service
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
Ear pain seems to be unrelated to shingles. Shingles usually involves a single dermatome or segment of the body.
I would recommend you to consult a doctor and get the ear pain evaluated as it could be due to some other cause.
