I Was Kicked By One Of My Llamas 4 Days

Question: I was kicked by one of my llamas 4 days ago in the leg. Just below and to the outside of my knee. A softball sized welt was obvious, but no bruising. Very painful and warm to the touch. I noticed the swelling going down over the next few days, but it seems that its progressing down my leg. Last night I saw my foot very swollen and dark colored on top and wrapped around the ankle. My leg from the knee to my toes is very sore and warm. After I elevated my foot all night, the swelling went down, the color was normal. Now I've been up and moving and the foot is swelling and getting discolored again. Should I be at the doctors or is this a normal response?

Brief Answer:
elevation, compression bandage, anti inflammatory medication

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Swelling , discoloration and increased warmth are part of the body's inflammatory response to trauma.

It can take up to 2 weeks for resolution, rarely up to 6 weeks.

As you move around, swelling with recur. Fluid would re accumulate in the leg and this would cause the discoloration.
Every opportunity that you have during the course of the day, you should elevate your feet and also consider wearing the compression bandage during the course of the day.

Using an anti inflammatory medication for a few days would also help to dampen your response eg naproxen, ibuprofen, cataflam

If there is no improvement or symptoms worsen, then you should be seen

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
