Question : I was straining to defecate. I have an enlarged prostate and am being treated with finasteride. On my way to the bathroom to urinate blood was discharged from my penis. Earlier I had strained myself repeatedly to defecate. Could he straining have caused the bleeding?

It is very unlikely that straining on the toilet would lead to blood in your urine. I suggest you go to your doctor for a urinalysis, blood tests and a physical. Bloody urine can be caused by many things, e.g. stones, kidney disease, infection, etc. and it should be investigated.
