Question : I was treated for chlamydia 2 weeks ago and my symptoms gradually improved until they were non existent, except for an itch in my urethra that has persisted. All though it is very minor in comparison to how it was originally, I'm wondering if I should be concerned.

Brief Answer:
No worries. Follow up with medication details.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your query and here is my advice.

As per your history, itching may be due to chlamydia infection. Please follow up with details of current medications that you are taking. So I can get better idea.

Usually chlamydia infection including itching clears up completely within 2 to 3 weeks with effective treatment. In case of itching, you can take tablet Claritin (generic name - loratidine) 10 mg once a day, but before that I would suggest you to follow up with medications details.

Kindly watch for symptoms like fever, lower abdominal pain, irregular bleeding. In that case you may require detailed evaluation.

Along with that kindly continue medications as advised by physician. Maintain proper hygiene. Avoid any harsh cosmetic products.

Kindly avoid sexual activity till infection clears up completely. In future always use protection during sexual activity. You may require retesting after 3 months to be sure that infection is cured.

Hope I have answered your query and let me know if I can assist you further... Thank you.

Regards,
Dr Shyam Kale.
