Question : I%E2%80%99ve had tonsillitus for 2 weeks and its spread to my throat and mouth. It hurts to swallow. It was diagnosed as a viral infection and perscribed steroids but they%E2%80%99ve had no affect.

You might have Acute bacterial tonsillitis infection by streptococcus like bacteria.

The viral infection usually resolved within week. Your symptoms are since two week. So bacterial tonsillitis chance more.

You can investigate further with Throat swab culture and ASO titre for further work up.

You can be prescribed Antibiotic course for your tonsillitis after above work up. So consult your doctor for further discussion.

Meanwhile do salt water gargles and drink more water.

Don't take excess spicy foods.

It would be more likely to be bacterial infection of tonsil or posterior pharynx.

It doesn't seem to be other infection apart from bacteria as per provided history.

If it is viral infection like influenza than cough and fever like complaint might present and it would have been resolved within week.

So kindly investigate further with Throat swab culture and ASO titre for further work up.
